Helio Ocean

$295.00 Released May, 2007

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Dual-slider design with both a QWERTY keyboard and a numeric keypad. EV-DO support. Full HTML web browser (search is accessible from the phone's main screen).

The Cons:Bulky design. Awkward design on the numeric keypad. Mediocre photo quality from its 2 mpx camera.

The Helio Ocean takes a gander at both elements of cell phone devices by providing a dual slider, which gives you different functionality depending on what you're going for. The first configuration is a full QWERTY keyboard so that you can easily text message or email.

Product Shot 2 The second is a standard number pad for more typical cell phone usage (i.e. phoning people). With all of this sliding action, you can expect a slightly thicker cell phone - it's definitely not a RAZR, but at 0.86 inches, it's only slightly larger than the Blackberry Pearl at 0.57 inches.

The Helio Ocean aims to provide you with a central location for all your messaging needs including text messages, emails, instant messaging and picture messaging. It connects right out of the box with email providers like AOL, Yahoo, Windows Live and Gmail. Although the instant messaging is limited to AOL, Yahoo and their own proprietary Helio Mail. The screen is big enough to accomodate any WAP site at a widescreen 2.4 inches. It also has built-in GPS technology with synchs with Google Maps and includes the ability to zoom in and out.

Amanie: #helio_ocean I like this in theory but I'm not sure how often you'd be switching back and forth, so the thickness factor is a pretty big deterrant for me. May 26, 07
