Philips 598

Released March, 2007

Product Shot 1Philips has come out with what they're referring to as a "women-specific" phone. The Philips 598 is all class with a shiny black exterior, complete with gold accents. The women's aspect comes from a few key features: a diary, a datebook, shopping list, discount manager and (obviously the key to their marketing) a body weight index and basal metabolic rate measurement.

Although the weight features may have seemed like a good idea in development, it seems Philips didn't consider the insulting nature of such a device. Women may not respond well to being constantly reminded of their weight, and more importantly, the importance of their weight. The phone features standard 1.3 megapixel camera and music player with microSD slot.

Erik: #philips_598 RIIIGHT. This is exactly what women need. More technology giving them reason to feel self-conscious and obsess about their self-image. Mar 22, 07
